A Commemoration took place in the Ufford Street Community Garden on April 4th
to plant a yellow rose in remembrance of Mrs Doreen Gilbert, a lady who was a much
loved member of the local community, and who sadly died last year after a short
illness.
Doreen is remembered as always being at the heart of the Community, having lived
locally all her life, and was a very active member of the local Octavia Hill Residents’
Association for many years.
Each year Doreen helped with the Annual Christmas teas events for the over 60’s and
worked tirelessly with fundraising events, such as running a stall at the regular jumble
sale events. Well-known as a local peace-maker, even in failing health in her later
years, Doreen carried on with her work on behalf of her Community.
The yellow rose which is now growing in the Ufford Street Community Garden is a
lasting tribute to this lovely lady, who is very much missed and fondly remembered
